When cells are going through mitosis, do they give each other privacy while they literally split themselves in half?
Seriously, hear me out. Imagine the scene…
A cell is hanging out, moseying through whatever tissue it happens to reside in. during its travels, it almost bumps into a different cell in the middle of the mitosis process, and the travelling cell abruptly changes direction.
‘oh, my apologies, i didn’t realize you were mid-divide! terribly sorry! do carry on!’
(and yes, in my mind, cells are overly polite and proper!)
Is this a thing though, for real? i imagine a cell dividing will emit chemical signals that other cells can pick up on. and this would just be a ‘KEEP AWAY’ sign…or are cells just a bunch of chaos gremlins when they’re at home, dividing at will and pushing other cells out of the way?
